Missionary Superhero Training

Ask your kids about Missionary Superhero Training.  I would love to hear what they say!

Superhero Slide

On Sunday, during service and during the Missions Banquet, our kids entered into  Missionary Superhero Training.  The Children’s Ministry Team was VERY excited to re-introduce missions to the kids in a fun and exciting way.  See, at Austin Bluffs Church, we believe that Missionaries are the closest thing you can find to a real-life Superhero!!  We want our kids to know that.

Our training entailed stations that helped teach the kids about Giving toward missions,  Praying for Missionaries and for those that still need to hear the Good News, and Going on a mission trip or helping someone to go.

Each child also put their picture into their own passport.  In the future, on the months where we have a fifth Sunday, we will train again, this time visiting different places.  Each place we visit, we will stamp each child’s passport with that country’s stamp!  In May, we will visit the Philippines.  I am very excited to tell all the kids about my trip there and all that I saw.

Confession Card

Our Prayer Challenge continues in Kid’s Church.  On Sunday, we talked about Confession and sent home a card with the children.  Take some time to talk to them about Confession during prayer.  It is good for us as adults to share with our kids that often we need to confess.  They need to know that we mess up too.  Share with your kids something that you have confessed of recently.  Then, help your child fill out his or her Confession Card and bring it in to be posted on our bulletin board (only if they are comfortable with sharing.)

1 John 1:9 (NIV) If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

So far we only have a couple of precious prayers posted on our bulletin board, I would love to see it fill up.  Make it a point to stop by so you can see them and pray over them as well.  What a great way to teach our children about how we function as The Body of Christ!

Praise Card

On Sunday, we introduced the ABC Kids Prayer Challenge.  The purpose of this challenge is to teach the kids to pray.  Each week we will introduce an important principal of prayer.  This week, we started with Praise.

Each child was sent home with a Praise card (similar to the one pictured above.)  We would love for the children to write their prayers of praise on these cards.  If they are comfortable with others seeing their prayers, they can bring them back to church and we will post them on our bulletin board.  This way, we can all join in prayer together.

Encourage your kids to praise God.  Pray as a family and come up with different ways to Praise him together!  We have extra Praise Cards, so if you would like to add your praises, we would love to post yours as well!  You can pick up extras when you drop off your children in Kid’s Church on Sunday.

I am very excited for this challenge.  I feel it is crucial to our kid’s spiritual growth.  Can’t wait to see their sweet prayers.

New Series: On The Trail

We started a new series on Sunday!  This series is a Western Theme called “On The Trail”, which the kids are already having fun with.  For the next eight weeks, we will be reading through Exodus, a bit in Numbers and some in Joshua.  The children will be learning about obedience, to focus on God when they have a problem, gratitude, loving God and others, and more!

With the new series, we have introduced a new challenge.  Each week, we will introduce a new memory verse.  For each verse the kids memorize, they will move on our Exodus map.  If they make it all the way through the map, they will get a special prize at the end of the series.  You can track your child’s progress on our map, which is located down the stairs from the lobby, on your way to Children’s Church.  Please encourage your kids to memorize these verses at home.  It would be fun to make it a family exercise!

The first verse that we send home with the kids is below.  I will post a new verse each week.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will i

Earning Tickets With Our Gifts!

Over the last two Sundays, you may have received this letter in Children’s Church:  Earn tickets for prizes

The kids have been working hard to earn tickets and I have been so impressed!  I would love to share with you some things I have heard about through emails from parents.  I hope they bless you as much as they have blessed me!

  • Doing the dishes, when it wasn’t the assigned chore (Clean and dirty!)
  • Volunteering to make cards for family that is sad
  • Doing schoolwork…in the morning before breakfast…without having to be asked
  • Giving a thank you gift
  • Helping mom unload the dishwasher
  • Sharing a cookie with sibling
  • Going to bed on time all week long
  • Helping a sibling
  • Cleaning the kitchen without being asked to do so
  • Making up a worship song on a harmonica
  • Asking to fill bags with money to give to the homeless

Can you believe it!?  I don’t make this stuff up!  Keep those emails coming, Parents.  At the end of this series, the kids get to buy prizes with their tickets.

New Series: Under The Big Top

Did you have a chance to stop by Children’s Church on Sunday?  It was transformed into a circus for our new series called “Under The Big Top”.  In this series, our kids will be learning all about Gifts.  It is going to be a lot of fun!

On Sunday, the 23rd, we will announce to the kids our new challenge.  They will have the opportunity to earn tickets for prizes.  On the last Sunday of the series (Sunday, October 4th) they will get to shop with the tickets that they earn!  Parents have the opportunity to participate as well:  If you “catch” your children doing something awesome, send me an email at, and I will be sure they get a ticket!

Click the link to see some examples of how the kids can earn tickets for prizes.  Each child will get a copy of this on Sunday.

I am really looking forward to the next several weeks with ABC Kids!

Lots of Love,
